Books, Giants and Universe

Reading the last chapter of a biography is always difficult,
because I know how it ends.
Naturally. Realistically.

Even though I am not attached to Charles Nichol’s Leonardo as I was to Irving Stone’s Michelangelo, I am still putting off reading the last few pages for another time. Reading fewer and fewer pages each day.

I could have finished the biography in the tube today, on the way home.
But associating his last years and works with a noisy and bumpy ride in a public transport just doesn’t seem quite right.

Bernini arrived two day ago, in a tidily wrapped package of reuse paper, addressed in a near-calligraphic handwriting.
I hope it hadn’t been sitting in the attic for far too long, and that the last owner had at least enjoyed flipping through it as much as I will.

Haven’t gotten a chance to study Rembrandt’s etchings and drawings much, after that first night of submerging myself into the port folio — for it was much more than a collection of copies of copies of copies… — under fluorescent light in a dingy London motel.

On a totally unrelated note, Sagan’s “Billions and Billions” and “Pale Blue Dot” are travelling from the States. His books are one of the best sources of inspiration and hunger for learning for me. Even when I had to clutch Cosmos in one hand, thumbing a dictionary in the other, and the English homework be damned.

Murzkine Mock-Up (II) – Codified

Murz proudly presents…
{ Curly Murzkine }

In awe with sIFR and Blueprint at the moment.

CSS validated and passed with no error/warning (from my side, anyway)
(X)HTML, though, seems to be breaking nearly every rule there is.

One of these days, I’ll try to learn and use it properly.

Murzkine Mock-Up (II)

Still trying to come up with a theme I could live with.
For a while in any case.

A contestant to the previous Peach-on-Chocolate sketch.

This time doodled in Photoshop, so I could play with the Watercolor Brushes.

Normal text without anti-alias: Verdana 11px (20px line height).
Headings/Quotes: Georgia of various sizes

The latter will be rendered by sIFR into overlaying Flash. Awesome tool when not overused. :)

How does Verdana 11px look like in Thai, though?

Status Page and Tumblr

My Status Page (beta[1]) and Tumblr Page

Busy with getting everything not permitted on into Status Page on
Venting my frustration from no-script, no-styling by including any widget/feed I could get my hand on.

Good therapy, that.
Another way to waste the time, too, unfortunately.

[1] just to belatedly follow Web 2.0 trend. Being ‘in beta’ seems to be considered cool somehow.

GTD without anything done

Spent an hour or so setting up RMilk to resemble … somewhat GTD system.
Though I doubt any system in the world, no matter how sophisticated or fool-proof, could get me to do anything productive more than an hour a day, three days a week.

Somebody said, ‘I love the sound of deadlines whooshing by.’
Probably Douglas Adams. Good man.

Projects: start with dot “.”
Contexts: start with at “@” (well, there’s also nifty RTM’s Places that need to be set up)
Persons: start with underscore “_” (Bruno is so my favourite person right now~)
Inactions: start with minus “-” (e.g. “-waitfor” “-someday” “-maybe”)
Actions: start with plus “+” (e.g. “+read”, “+simulate”, “+write”)

And thanks to RTM’s Smart List, now I have orderly, colour-coded, clean-looking, all-in-one to-do lists.
To tell me how many deadlines I have already missed.

Part Two coming up.
(because I realise that blogging this post is hardly called ‘productive’)
